Ms. Lata Mane
Survivor of Violence, Awardee of the Woman Exemplar in Health Sector award by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Ms. Lata Mane is an inspiration for everyone who is thinks of giving up in tough times. Being abused sexually at a tender age, having sold in a brothel by her own husband, the mother of two did not lose hope. With continued efforts, she made sure that her daughters received proper education and that the sex workers got other opportunities apart from flesh trade and became financially independent. Working with the BMC since 1997, she has bagged the BMC Sanitation Project. She wants to rehabilitate the old sex workers and save girls and women who are forced into this profession against their wish. Being one of the most active social activists of the country, she wants women, irrespective of their profession, to live with dignity and respect.
